Vintage 1931 Penn Relay Silver Medal for the four mile college relay. Beautiful detailing in the raised lettering. In good condition with some aging to the front of the medal. Engraved on the rear with the name of the race and the word "Silver" on the bottom . The beautiful picture on the medal features the founder of the University of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Franklin, sitting in his library chair holding a laurel sprig in his left hand. Four nude runners stand facing him in a line all holding hands. The last runner in the line is holding the baton of the relay.
The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States and began in 1895.
