Princeton - Old & New Recollections of Undergraduate Life by James W. Alexander. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1898. Hardcover book in very good condition. First Edition.
109 pages with black and white illustrations of Princeton. The book has 30 full page illustrations including some things that no longer exist. There are images of Dennis Sullivan, who was "over fifty years in the employ of the college," and Jimmy Johnson, who sold apples on the campus, "Apple-man," he is called. Johnson was a former fugitive slave who a wealthy patron (a descendent of President Witherspoon) of the school paid to have him set free.
An uncommon book and a great look back at Old Nassau in olden times.
