University Pennsylvania Antique F. Earl Christy Football Mug

Hand painted, circa 1905 antique University of Pennsylvania football mug/cup/stein. Stein is early Avon, marked Avon on the bottom. Hand painted.

The football player on the front is running, and is beautifully decorated, featuring a classic uniform with the traditional "P" on the front of his jersey, and the image is signed F. Earl Christy. Gold trim around the rim and gold leafing around the top. There are gold luster leaves above the player.

On the back of the mug is the University of Pennsylvania emblem in Latin. Mug is approx. 5" tall, and 5" wide at the widest part. Christy is a well known American artist who lived from 1882 - 1961. Early in his career he specialized in early college images and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

In very good condition with vibrant colors, some wear to the rim and to some of the gilt.
