In 1986 this painting of the College Hall Green was officially commissioned by the University of Pennsylvania. It portrays the heart of the campus in the gentle sunshine of a spring morning. Viewed from Locust Walk, the statue of Benjamin Franklin sits in front of College Hall, and is flanked by the Furness Building, the old library. The spire of Irvine Auditorium rises in the distance.
The artist, David A. Keeling, oversaw the painting’s reproduction as offset lithographs, which were printed on acid-free, museum-quality paper to ensure their color and durability. The artist signed and numbered each print before the General Alumni Society offered them to Penn’s alumni and friends. Unframed, measures 11 by 14 inches. T
he prints are no longer available for sale at the Penn Store.
